The Government of India through various legislation has made the registration of birth, death, and marriage compulsory in India. No one can keep distance from these rules as we need to produce birth, death, and marriage certificates to avail of certain services in our state. Moreover, the registration must be done within the prescribed time limit set by the Government. The marriage registration application must be submitted within 45 days from the date of solemnization of the Marriage. You need to pay some prescribed fine if you have not registered within the prescribed time limit.
The state government has appointed separate registrars according to the type of area of occurrences such as panchayath, municipality, corporation, or a combination of both. Necessary documents for registration include a memorandum in duplicate, a copy of marriage certificates issued by religious authority, 3 passport size photos, and an attested copy of any ID proof showing the date of birth issued by the government. The declaration form signed by a gazetted officer or member of Local Self Government Institutions or MLA or MP must be produced if the applicants fail to produce a certificate given by the religious authorities. You have to pay the prescribed fee for the registration.
Now the state government has introduced an Aadhaar authentication-based online portal for the self-registration of birth, death, or marriage as part of e-governance. In order to avail of this facility, we have to create an account in the portal. For creating a User Login, the User has to undergo Aadhaar based demographic authentication. Aadhaar based demographic authentication is done only for ensuring the authenticity of the applicant. After creating a User Login, Aadhaar is not mandatory for availing services. Also applying through User Login is not mandatory for availing services from LSGIs. Applicants can choose other options such as Akshaya centers and the Front office of LSGI for availing services. In such cases, the applicant need not undergo Aadhaar based demographic authentication. Information Kerala Mission will ensure the secrecy and security of the details given for Aadhaar based demographic authentication.
