Contributing to the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in celebrating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as Swachh Bharat, India Post has planned to launch to two commemorative postage stamps on the occasion. The postage stamp, which is scheduled to be unveiled on October 2 by Telecommunication Minister Manoj Sinha, is in two denominations — Rs 5 and Rs 25.
Giving details about the stamp, a senior official said that it’s a small contribution from India Post to the initiatives of the Prime Minister aimed at creating awareness among masses about keeping surroundings clean. “There are instances of people getting inspired by stamps, so we are also hopeful that stamps that is scheduled to be released on the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation would help in propagating the Swachh Bharat mission of PM Modi,” the official said.
However, the official kept the contents of the stamp ‘secret’ and refused to unleash before its official release.
On the selection of stamps, he said, “The Department of Post had organised a nationwide competition inviting entries for selection of designs of commemorative postage stamps on the theme “Swachh Bharat”. Based on the selected entries a set of two postage stamp, miniature sheet, first day cover and brochure on Swachh Bharat would be released on October 2,” the official said.
Designs of three, who hail from Odisha, Karnataka and Haryana, have been selected and all three will be awarded with Rs 10,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 in cash as per their merit, the official added.
